Great Throwback for the Series May 20, 2008 Captain Boosh (Southern California) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
For anyone that seems to not think this is a great Predator novel, I think you're missing the point here. Yeah, it's not all about the predators hunting and deals with humans a lot, but this is a complete homage to the first movie.
We get an ex-marine sniper who knows how to hunt with the best of them, loaded with the latest and greatest technology, who is a survivalist at heart and can take on the best and baddest. He's basically Dutch at 60.
We get to see a new spin on what made the first movie so great, a fight between man and Predator on a somewhat level playing field. Rather than an all out shoot em up, this takes some great setups and trap tactics to tell a very convincing story about how most of us would love to live through.
Regardless, this story has great characters that you actually feel for by the end and some really neat ideas of how this type of battle would go down. If you remotely like any other novels in these series (Aliens as well), this is a must buy.
Not to mention Perry and daughter have been writing these things for years.
A page turner March 4, 2009 E. Brousseau (Montreal, CA) This is the best predator novel to date! It reminds me of the first predator movie, small cast, characters development and a big finish. I like to care for characters and I did with this one. The predators are there but you do not see them often, and it is a good thing. I usually take 3-4 days to read a book (since English is not my first language) but I read this one in a single night. A solid 4.5/5

Hunting the hunters... March 17, 2008 B. Lindsey (Hobbs, NM) 3 out of 6 found this review helpful
Turnabout, is a story following the lives of Ranger Sloane, an ex-Marine, and Mary Collins, taking place in Alaska. Mary visits, hoping to shed some light on the death of her younger brother... but finds more than anyone could have ever thought possible - even real.
This book has taken a nice step back from those that were recently written... and it's a step back I am happy for. It's a bare-bones, no nonsense story, reminiscent of the original film. Steve Perry does a WONDERFUL job of details and imagery, as well as getting strong character development and dialogue in. The story itself, is written with good sense, and is presented very smart.
The two main characters (Sloane and Mary), I actually felt compassion and care for what may happen as I read along - the antagonists, the poachers in the story, were dirty, vile, and every terrible stereotype of a poacher you could imagine. - That's not to say it was predictable, just well written to get the reader to genuinely hate them.
I'm giving this book five stars, because it earned it in my mind. I definitely recommend it to any Predator fan!
Simple + Predator = Great! March 24, 2008 Dillon 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
This book was a nice change of pace for me. It had a very simple plot and the book launches the reader right into the action from the getgo. Which is perfect for a book like this. The original Predator film really had no complex story line and that's what made it a classic action movie. This book was well-written and the characters were believable and likeable. The Predators were not overused in the story and that kept the book interesting, because you never knew when they'd show up. I liked it a lot, which is why I'm giving it a high rating. I hope Mr. Perry continues to write in the Predator series!
