| Editorial Reviews:
Amazon.com Alaska residents refer to their state as "the last frontier," and for good reason. The Alaska Railroad takes tourists through areas of the state where it's unlikely that human feet have ever trod. A whole different way of life exists in Alaska, one suited for those self-reliant types willing to turn their backs on much of the rest of society and tough it out through the brutally cold winters and remote locales. En route from Anchorage to Seward, Alaska Railroad passengers will see the Turnagain Arm, a spectacular ocean cove accessible only by rail, as well as glaciers, killer whales, and sea lions at Resurrection Bay. The second leg of the tour goes to Fairbanks, taking sightseers to Talkeetna, the model for the TV show Northern Exposure; Mount McKinley; and Denali National Park. Those willing to make the trip will be rewarded with dramatic scenery unlike anything in the lower 48, and it's a journey that few would be likely to forget. For the residents of the area, the ARR provides local passenger service and is a lifeline for those along the track, dropping off supplies and taking residents to towns where they can stock up on provisions. Loaded with archival railroad footage and interviews with Alaska residents, The Great Alaska Train Adventure is a fascinating look at the northernmost state, one that should hit home for railroad fans and the travel-minded alike. --Jerry Renshaw
Product Description An exploration by train of the scenic wonders of Alaska.

I have quite a few American vhs and dvd video, I did not know
that Alaska had such scenery, I live in New Zealand, and our country
has pretty teriffic scenery, but I was most impressed after
watching the dvd, it was very clear and well filmed, and all
the people are so friendly, a bit like my own country.
Thankyou,Regards,
J.M.Beattie,
New Zealand.
It's really a great adventure August 4, 2000 13 out of 14 found this review helpful
If you like trains and nature, this is one of the best movies in DVD. All the scenes, narrations and extra features are marvellous. I recommend this DVD for any train fan.
A must view for Alaska bound travelers February 6, 2004 William E. Brown (USA) 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
Fantastic DVD. Very Professional and interesting. Scenery is breathtaking and some very interesting insight into the lives of those who make the train system possible.I was also impressed by the demanding qualifications that school aged children must go through if they are desiring a job on the train. They actually compete for the jobs so passengers actually get the "cream of the crop" when it comes to hospitality and knowlege of the state. The history of the floods and earthquakes wrecking havoc on the rail system was thorough. Rent it.. You won't be sorry.
Looking a bit dated March 13, 2008 R. M. Joseph (Auckland, New Zealand) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
We thoroughly enjoyed the programme as a reminder of our stunning holiday in Alaska. The scenery is tremendous and the programme reflects the warm & friendly nature of Alaskans; but with age & a gradual change in programme styles the DVD looks a bit dated. Still good value for money though.
not really a train trip July 12, 2009 Debra Ridgeway 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this thinking it would be a train trip thru Alaska, which it is, in part. But there is also alot of airplane footage and boat rides. The entire video is not very informative nor do you see anything that you haven't allready seen in other videos. Wouldn't recommend it if you are looking for information on traveling in Alaska, it simply skims the surface and disappoints.
